Is it possible to disable or turn off daily email notifications of up coming updates?

I have seen others post some time ago and with a function you can disable these notifications, but really this should not be necessary. A simple tick or untick in the dashboard should be available. Has this changed anytime recently or is that code snippet still needed ?
