Pro Reports tokens inoperative in recent weeks — tokens print verbatim, unprocessed

My Pro Reports used to work just fine, but some weeks ago many of the tokens stopped showing the expected data and now just print verbatim, unprocessed.

It’s taken me a while to ask about this (my MainWP instance is for my own benefit, at present I don’t manage sites for any clients). But I would like to fix it.

I do use a customised report template, but it’s not that different from the built-in one that it’s based on — and besides, I tried the standard ones again and got the same (lack of) results.

I do keep all plugins regularly up to date on both the MainWP site and the child sites. It seems to have been an update that broke this, and I hoped the problem would resolve itself with another update, but that hasn’t happened.

How do I get the tokens working again please?

Also, even before this, I couldn’t get the domain monitor tokens to output anything — for example, [domain.monitor.status] would print verbatim, unprocessed.

Can you please post the community system report from your MainWP Dashboard for review? The report is located in your Dashboard under Info → Server, on the top right of the page.

Thank you for the system report.

Several of your extensions are out of date, including Pro Reports and Domain monitor, which is very likely the reason for the issue you’re describing.

If your Dashboard isn’t showing an available update for the extensions, it may be necessary to re-activate the Extension API as described in this document: Activate Extension(s) API - MainWP Documentation

After that, please update all of your extensions, and let us know if that resolves your issue.

Huh — I’m pretty sure I did all that before, and thought it was all up to date (I tend to act on update notifications pretty fast, and there were no notifications of pending updates).

Anyway, I went through those steps again, and then went into the WordPress admin menu to complete the updates. It now seems to be working, thanks — although I can’t check whether the domain monitor tokens are working yet because they aren’t in the built-in reports and annoyingly the update has deleted my custom report template…

I’ll have to see if I can recover a copy from my host’s daily backups, and then check. For future reference, is there a special place to put custom reports so that they don’t get deleted by updates? (I just stored it alongside the built-in templates before, but clearly that wasn’t so good…)

Great, I’m glad the it’s working now.

You can check if the Domain Monitor tokens are working simply by entering them in the Report introduction message or Report closing message and then then either check the Preview or download the PDF.

Yes, custom reports should be stored in /wp-content/uploads/mainwp/report-templates/ so that they don’t get lost with extension updates.

I recovered the file from backup and can now confirm that all tokens now work as expected. Great.

Clearly I missed that bit about /wp-content/uploads/mainwp/report-templates/ before — I’m using it now though!
