Built-In Backups 6.4: S3 upload to Cloudflare R2 fails at manifest verification

We’re testing Built-In Backups (Dashboard 6.4, Child 6.4) with a Cloudflare R2 bucket set up as an S3 Compatible Storage destination. Region is “auto”, the endpoint is the account’s r2.cloudflarestorage.com address, and the token has Object Read & Write on that one bucket.

Test Connection & Save succeeds. A Full backup of one site (about 120 MB, Tar GZip) completes and is stored on the Dashboard. All 29 chunks of 4 MB upload to the bucket: the diagnostics checkpoint shows remote_present true for every chunk and for files.list. The upload job then fails every time with:

[mainwp_backup_s3_failed] Upload verification failed; the destination did not confirm 117/1/manifest.json at the expected size.

The checkpoint shows manifest_submitted False. It fails the same way with Path style addressing on and off, after rotating the token secret, and across four snapshots and their automatic retries. I have the diagnostics export and can send it privately if that helps.

Is R2 supported for Built-In Backups, and is there a setting we’re missing for the manifest step?

Thanks,
Geoffrey

Hey @lowthian

Welcome to the MainWP community.

Sure, please send me the diagnostics export privately via DM.

Could you also confirm whether manifest.json exists in R2 for the failed snapshot and, if it does, its exact size in bytes?

A fix for this issue was included in version 6.4.1 of MainWP Dashboard.

Let us know how it works on your end.
