Cloning a Child Website Fails

I am trying to use the Clone Extension to make a copy of a client’s WP website (hosted on a different server) so that we can create a “Staging” copy of their website.

I have followed all the instruction and the Unique Client ID has been setup and synced.

However, I keep getting an error message that says:

Child plugin is disabled or the security key is incorrect. Please resync with your main installation.

I have created a video recording showing exactly how everything is setup and exactly what is happening when I try to clone the source website.

Hopefully someone will have seen this error message before and let me know how to solve this problem.

Are you able to perform sync for those two sites in the MainWP Dashboard?

Please keep in mind that Unique Client ID is completely optional not just for Clone extension but for MainWP overall.

And can you please post the community system report from your MainWP Dashboard for review? The report is located in your Dashboard under Info → Server, on the top right of the page.

Be sure to use the button like the one below; this button hides all your private information:

Yes we are able to SYNC both child websites ( clone Source and clone Destination) to the Main WP Dashboard.

Thanks for the system report.

Your version of Clone extension is out of date, so let’s get that updated first and see if that helps.
And make sure you’re using the latest version of the MainWP Child plugin on both child sites.

I’ve also noticed that the license for it is inactive (and for other extensions as well), which is why you aren’t receiving automatic updates.

I have activated and updated all of the extensions.

My server admin has been doing tests with different WP website and I think that he has narrowed the failure down to a settings mismatch.

I believe that the WP hosting (storage) settings on the destination server MAY be set too low related to the size of the WP site that we are attempting to migrate.

We were able to successfully clone a WP site that was already on our server.

Hopefully with some additional testing we will be able to discover the true cause of this problem and then provide you with a final update.

My Server Admin has been running tests on the Clone Extension using his own personal WP website.

  1. We have been successful at creating a backup file.
  2. We have been successful at downloading the backup from the Clone Source to our Clone Destination
  3. When we try to extract the backup file we get the error message shown below:

Thanks for updating the extensions and I’m glad we’re seeing some progress.

However, that is an unusual issue you’re facing right now.

If the MainWP Child plugin is up to date on both sites (source and destination) and you are still seeing this issue, would you mind opening a private Help Desk ticket so we can collect some additional information & investigate further?

And please refer to this Managers thread by its URL in the ticket.
