Error detected - website already contains a link

Dear community,
it’s sort of weird, that I receive this (quite common?) error.
I’ve successfully connected three wp installs on that hosting server pack, not issues so far.
But this wp install (identical server settings, identical plugin settings, staging setup, almost brand new wp install) gives me the error.
I tried lots of times, de-activating and activating the child plugin. de-activating all other 3 wp plugins.
Nothing helped so far.
what’s weird, too: as soon as i de-activated the child plugin, the TEST CONNECTION gives me a “successful connection”.
Really strange, definitely wrong!

What can I do?

My cURL timeout is low, but that’s been true for all former successfully connected wp installs, too.
I do not think this can be the problem.

Thanks so much for any help.
Cheers,
Jan

When testing you should at least check if the reported IP address is correct (for that site). Sometimes your dashboard could find the site on a different server if it was used on the same server or the site has just been moved to a new server.

Did you try to deactivate and activate the MainWP Child plugin on the site you want to connect? If that doesn’t help, you can also use the reset tool by following the instructions on White Label - MainWP WordPress Management

Hey @Jan

Welcome to the MainWP community!

If this a staging site of a site that’s already added to the MainWP Dashboard, then the error message you’re receiving is expected.

The solution is to navigate to /wp-admin/options-general.php?page=mainwp_child_tab (after enabling MainWP Child plugin) on that staging site, and then click Clear Connection Data.

After that, try adding the staging site once more to the MainWP Dashboard.

Hello Bojan, thanks so much for your anwer. No, sorry, not a staging site in terms of that there is a main live site. I meant it’s not live, and not built ( = no big site with big system requirements). Actually, please ignore that staging site thing, as it was rather misleading.
It is just a small brand new install without any obvious reason for that error.
thanks again

Hey Jos, thanks a lot, that reset tool actually helped!!
I ran it, then re-activated the child plugin . boom! Successfully added!
I did not know about this small snippet reset tool.
Will save it for future issues.

thanks A LOT!!
