Google Analytics Pro Reports Chart Image not found or type unknown

Hi guys!

I’m having this issue where Google Analytics chart stoped being displayed in the PDF reports, returning a Image not found or type unknown message and a big square cross (print attached).

I went through searching in the forum before posting, so I already checked allow_url_fopen, tested on the default pdf template as well and checked for ssl issues on dompdf log.

I noticed a different warning in dompdf log that might be related to the issue:

The issue is likely related to some disabled PHP function.

Can you please post the community system report from your MainWP Dashboard for review? The report is located in your Dashboard under Info → Server, on the top right of the page.

FYI, I usually run this automated reports monthly on day 1. For some reason, last month Google Analytics extenstion was disabled so it didn’t show up any related analytics info on the report.
Last successfull run was on Feb 1 where the report showed the chart, nothing in the server changed since then (that I know of), so maybe some MainWP extension update.

allow_url_fopen is set to YES and MainWP products are up to date.

However, I noticed you’re both using Wordfence. Can you try temporarily disabling it and see if that helps?

It might be blocking the fetch request from the Google API.

Thank you for looking into this for us.

Disabled Wordfence, refreshed all pages, cleared cache, and sent a test report. Unfortunately, the Google Analytics graph is still not showing.

I had previously disabled Wordfence with no success.

Now I’ve disabled it with the option to Delete all Wordfence tables and data and it also did not work

I’d just like to update that my particular instance of this issue was resolved after I disabled a managed CloudFlare WAF rule, which was responsible for blocking traffic from certain countries to my managing website.
My guess is that there’s some kind of loopback occurring (maybe GA does a reverse lookup?). Edit: I’ve re-enabled the WAF rule and the analytics chart is still showing. So not sure what’s going on here.

Hey @redshift! Thank you for the Cloudflare quick tip.

Just to share with you that I temporarily disabled Cloudflare on my entire domain and still the issue persists. However, at one time, the graph showed after I toggled this dropdown Screenshot by Lightshot , saved the report draft, and refreshed the reports extension page. I was able to download a complete report with no missing gaps. But when I attempted to run 12 reports, I noticed that the problem had resurfaced. Toggling again didn’t work this time around and reports are now overdue

Maybe you can try it too and see if this option might work for you.

We’ve identified an issue with Pro Reports, specifically how it generates charts.
We don’t believe Cloudflare, security plugins, or any other factors are influencing this issue.

We are actively working on solving this, and we’ll update you as soon as we have more information.

Hi all, I know the MainWP team are already working on this, but it appears the API used for chart generation has been shut down (which was a Google service).

I found another workaround/chart generation service which seems to work, which is https://quickchart.io/. If you’re like me and REALLY need these reports happening, you can do a hacky workaround for the time being by editing the plugin directly; this is obviously for advanced users only.

On lines 143 and 285 - replace chart.googleapis.com with quickchart.io. Example:

We have a pre-release version of Pro Reports that uses a different API for generating charts.

Thanks for that. Coincidentally, we also chose quickchart for the chart API, and we plan to include it in the next stable release.
