Recently, we’ve had some problems with the wp2shell security issue. For some reason the child plugin on a fews sites was deactivated. The sites were not updated and became vulnerable. I have no idea why the plugin was deactivated. Is there some built-in notification feature, if the plugin is disabled (like in Wordfence)? I could easily use a code snippet for this, but it would be far better to have this in the plugin itself.
Strangely enough, I did not get a site disconnected warning. The sites simply weren’t in the Mainwp dashboard anymore.
If the MainWP Child plugin is disabled while the site remains added to your MainWP Dashboard, the site should be marked as disconnected. Disconnected sites are included in the Daily Digest email, provided it is enabled under MainWP > Settings > Email Settings.
However, if the site was removed from the MainWP Dashboard, it can no longer be monitored or included in any disconnection notification.
MainWP does not automatically remove sites when they become disconnected, when the MainWP Child plugin is disabled, or in any other normal scenario. We recommend checking whether the sites were removed manually, or whether the Dashboard database was restored or rolled back.
Unfortunately, MainWP does not currently provide a dedicated notification specifically stating that the MainWP Child plugin has been disabled. The Dashboard can detect that it can no longer communicate with a registered site, but it cannot reliably distinguish plugin deactivation from other causes such as a firewall, authentication problem, or server error.
Also, once a plugin is disabled, it cannot reliably send an alert itself. A dedicated solution would therefore require an independent monitor or code running as a separate plugin or must-use plugin.
Thank you very much for the prompt reply. I’m pretty stuck here. I have no idea how and why the dashboard “lost” these sites. Fortunately, no damage was done. So, everything is fine from the Mainwp site. Just bad luck, I guess.
