I have a local installation with MainWP dashboard and want to connect the first site. When I add the url and hit Test connection, it runs forever! No error or success message. Any idea what is going wrong here?

Is the child site also locally hosted?
What message do you get when you try to add the child site?
And can you please post the community system report from your MainWP Dashboard for review? The report is located in your Dashboard under Info → Server, on the top right of the page.

Pressing the button auto-copies the report to your clipboard then just paste it in a reply here.
Only the dashboard site is locally hosted (so I can’t connect easily right now). The sites I want to add as a child site are publicly hosted. I don’t get any message when adding a child site. I just fill in the url, hit test connection and the pop-up runs forever and does not give any success or failure message.
I will try to add the system report later.

It is not necessary to perform Test Connection in order to add a child site.
You can click the toggle to verify that the Child plugin is installed and active, and additional fields will unfurl giving you the option to add the site.
I wasn’t able to add a website too but the System Report gave me enough hints to make changes. At least the curl extension needed to be enabled. I am now able to add a site. Thanks!
