SOLVED: Lowering the simultaneous request solved the problem.
I decided to participate in the beta testing and successfully installed the maintwp beta plugin on my site. I then tried to follow your instructions and uploaded the maintwp child beta and selected all my sites for installation. When I press the Install button I get the following screen:
Nothing is happening and after a few minutes I get an uptime monitor alert that my site is down. It comes back live after about 10 minutes but no plugins were installed. I then tried to disable all plugins except MainWP and tried again with the same result. I also cleaned my .htaccess file which is now completely empty.
